Images and screenshots help readers understand technology products, software features, testing conditions, product design, and practical differences between competing devices.
eDigitalReviews aims to use visual content accurately, responsibly, and lawfully. Product photographs, screenshots, diagrams, comparison tables, charts, illustrations, videos, and other visual materials should support the article rather than create a misleading impression.
This Image and Screenshot Policy explains how visual content is selected, created, edited, labeled, stored, and published on eDigitalReviews.
1. Purpose of Visual Content
A visual element should serve a clear editorial purpose. It may help readers:
- Identify a product or model.
- Understand a physical design.
- Locate a button, port, setting, or feature.
- See a software interface.
- Understand a testing environment.
- Compare product dimensions or layouts.
- Interpret performance data.
- Follow a technical tutorial.
- Understand a product limitation.
- Navigate a complex explanation.
We avoid using images solely to fill space or create the appearance of a more substantial article. A photograph, screenshot, chart, or illustration should be relevant to the subject and placed near the information it supports.
2. Original Photography
When practical, eDigitalReviews may create original photographs of products, equipment, testing environments, desk setups, software interfaces, or other subjects related to an article.
Original photography should represent the product or environment honestly. Images should not be staged or edited in a way that creates a false impression of the product’s size, condition, features, performance, or included accessories.
A photograph should not imply hands-on testing if the product was not physically evaluated. An image of a product supplied by a manufacturer does not, by itself, establish that the product was tested or used for an extended period.
When a photograph shows a particular configuration, accessory, firmware version, or regional model, the accompanying text should provide context when that detail may affect interpretation.
3. Manufacturer and Press Images
Manufacturers, distributors, public relations agencies, and retailers may provide product photographs, press images, technical diagrams, screenshots, logos, and other visual material.
Supplied images may be used for product identification, editorial reference, news coverage, product announcements, or review context when the relevant rights and permissions allow their use.
Manufacturer imagery should not be presented as original eDigitalReviews photography. It should not be used to create the false appearance of independent product testing or ownership.
A press image may show a pre-release product, an optional accessory, a special configuration, a staged environment, or a feature that is not included with every model. We aim to avoid using such an image without appropriate context.
4. Copyright and Permissions
Images, screenshots, graphics, charts, videos, illustrations, and other visual works may be protected by copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights.
Before publishing visual material, we aim to confirm that it is:
- Created by eDigitalReviews.
- Owned by the website operator or contributor.
- Licensed for the intended use.
- Supplied with permission.
- Provided through an authorized media or partner arrangement.
- Used under an applicable legal exception.
- Embedded through an approved third-party service.
A publicly available image is not automatically free to copy or publish. Search results, social media posts, retailer listings, manufacturer pages, and online image libraries do not automatically grant permission to reuse visual material.
We do not knowingly publish copyrighted images without a lawful basis. If a rights holder believes that an image or screenshot was used improperly, the concern should identify the visual material and its location so it can be reviewed.
5. Screenshots
Screenshots may be used to explain software settings, operating system features, WordPress tools, website interfaces, account dashboards, product applications, or technical instructions.
A screenshot should represent the relevant software, version, account type, device, or configuration accurately. We do not create or alter screenshots to show features that do not exist or settings that were not available in the evaluated environment.
Screenshots may contain personal information, email addresses, usernames, IP addresses, account identifiers, private messages, license keys, customer details, or other sensitive data. We aim to remove, obscure, or avoid publishing such information unless it is necessary, authorized, and appropriate for the article.
A screenshot may be cropped or resized for layout purposes, but editing should not change the meaning of the interface or conceal a material limitation.
6. Editing and Image Adjustments
Images may be resized, compressed, cropped, sharpened, color-corrected, or converted into a format suitable for the website.
These adjustments should improve presentation, loading performance, or accessibility without changing the factual meaning of the image.
We do not intentionally alter visual content to:
- Make a product appear larger or smaller than it is.
- Hide damage or defects.
- Improve a product’s apparent performance.
- Add features that are not present.
- Remove important limitations.
- Misrepresent lighting or image quality.
- Create a false testing result.
- Present an optional accessory as included.
- Change a product’s color in a misleading way.
A chart or graphic may be reformatted for clarity, but the underlying figures, units, labels, and conclusions should remain accurate.
7. Artificial Intelligence and Generated Images
Artificial intelligence tools may assist with limited image tasks such as resizing, background removal, accessibility descriptions, formatting, noise reduction, or organization.
AI-generated images must not be presented as real photographs of products, people, testing environments, facilities, events, or product performance.
Generated illustrations may be used when they have a clear editorial or explanatory purpose and cannot reasonably be mistaken for evidence of hands-on testing. A generated visual should not show a product with features, ports, controls, accessories, or design elements that it does not actually have.
AI tools must not be used to create fake screenshots, fabricated benchmark results, simulated customer experiences, invented testing scenes, or misleading product comparisons.
When generated or substantially altered visuals could affect a reader’s understanding, the content should be identified appropriately.
8. Product Accuracy
A visual should match the product, model, version, configuration, and region discussed in the article when those details matter.
We aim to avoid:
- Using an older model to represent a newer product.
- Showing a premium configuration while discussing a base model.
- Including accessories sold separately without explanation.
- Using an international version with different controls or specifications.
- Showing a prototype as if it were the final retail product.
- Using a product image that contains features unavailable in the reviewed version.
- Presenting a promotional concept image as a standard product photograph.
When a product has multiple revisions or configurations, the caption or surrounding text may identify the relevant version.
9. Image Captions and Context
Captions should provide useful context when an image could otherwise be misunderstood. A caption may identify the product model, software version, testing condition, accessory, or source.
We do not use captions to make unsupported performance claims. A caption should describe what the image shows rather than suggest that the visual proves more than it actually does.
For example, a photograph of a camera mounted on a tripod may demonstrate the setup used for an article, but it does not prove image quality, recording reliability, or long-term durability.
10. Accessibility and Alternative Text
We aim to provide meaningful alternative text for informative images. Alternative text should explain the image’s purpose or the information a reader needs from it.
An informative product image may identify the product and relevant visible feature. A screenshot may explain the setting or interface shown. A chart should have its important conclusion explained in surrounding text where possible.
Decorative images may use empty alternative text so assistive technology can skip them. Images that duplicate nearby text should not create unnecessary repetition.
Alternative text should not be stuffed with keywords, promotional claims, or irrelevant product descriptions. Its purpose is accessibility, not search manipulation.
11. Charts, Tables, and Graphics
Charts, diagrams, infographics, and comparison tables should present data clearly and accurately.
We check, where practical:
- Product model names.
- Units of measurement.
- Dates.
- Currency.
- Data ranges.
- Labels.
- Legends.
- Source information.
- Configuration details.
- Calculation methods.
Visual data should not exaggerate small differences through misleading scales, selective comparisons, missing labels, or unexplained averages.
Important conclusions from a chart should also be explained in written text so that readers who cannot view the visual can understand the relevant information.
12. Embedded Media and Third-Party Content
eDigitalReviews may embed videos, social media posts, audio, product tools, maps, or other visual content supplied by third parties.
Third-party platforms control their own content, captions, player controls, updates, availability, and accessibility features. An embedded item may change or disappear after publication.
We do not necessarily endorse every statement or visual claim contained in third-party media. When third-party content is important to an article, we aim to provide enough written context for readers to understand the subject without relying entirely on the embedded element.
13. User-Submitted Images
Readers, manufacturers, contributors, and other visitors may submit photographs, screenshots, videos, charts, or other visual material.
The person submitting an image must own it or have permission to provide it for publication. The submission should not expose private information, reveal confidential material, infringe another person’s rights, or misrepresent a product or event.
We may crop, resize, compress, label, edit, decline, restrict, or remove submitted visual content for editorial, accessibility, privacy, legal, security, or presentation reasons.
Submission does not guarantee publication or payment. We may retain the material and associated communications for editorial, administrative, security, or legal purposes.
14. Corrections and Complaints
If an image, screenshot, chart, caption, credit, model identification, or visual description is incorrect, readers may report the issue through the website’s contact form.
A useful report should include:
- The article title.
- The location of the image or screenshot.
- The nature of the concern.
- The correct information, where available.
- Evidence supporting the request.
- Proof of ownership or authority when reporting a rights issue.
We may replace, correct, remove, relabel, or add context to visual content when the evidence supports a change.
eDigitalReviews aims to use images and screenshots that are accurate, relevant, accessible, properly sourced, and appropriate to the editorial purpose of each article. Visual content should help readers understand technology more clearly without creating a false impression of product ownership, testing, performance, or endorsement.
